Long-time CBS reporter Scott Pelley claims Bari Weiss is 'murdering' news program '60 Minutes'

The accusation comes amid a series of shake-ups at the news organization, including Weiss' decision to hire former New York Times tech columnist Nick Bilton to lead "60 Minutes" after current executive producer Tanya Simon leaves.

“60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley reportedly accused CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss on Monday of "murdering" the staple news program with her recent changes, including the hiring of the program's new executive producer.

Weiss hired former New York Times tech columnist Nick Bilton to lead the program last month, after current executive producer Tanya Simon leaves.

Bilton reportedly told the "60 Minutes" staff in his first meeting that Weiss “loves this institution,” a source told NBC News. Pelley rejected Bilton's assertion, according to an audio recording, and claimed Weiss was killing the institution.

“She is murdering ‘60 Minutes.’ She does not love this place,” Pelley told Bilton, according to the recording. “She was brought in to kill it, and she’s been doing exactly that.”

Pelley also reportedly told the new producer during the meeting that Weiss had “no qualifications for her job” and Bilton has “slender qualifications” for his new role.

The accusation comes amid a series of shake-ups at the news organization and the program, which also included dismissing two of the program's correspondents: Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega.

Alfonsi clashed with Weiss earlier this year after Weiss pulled Alfonsi's story about an El Salvador detention facility in which deportees from the U.S. were being housed, citing concerns about the depth of its reporting.
