New MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler on Monday announced a major overhaul of the liberal network's Spring lineup, which includes disbanding its Miami operations and parting ways with anchor Joy Reid.
News of Reid's departure surfaced on Sunday, after reports indicated the network would end its five-year staple, "The ReidOut," for a paneled program, which will be hosted by Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.
Sanders-Townsend, Menendez and Steele previously hosted the network's show “The Weekend," which aired at 8 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Kutler on Monday announced the new lineup, which will begin in April, and includes canceling three other shows and moving the anchors to other programs. None of the anchors were fired from the network.
“We now have one of the most engaged audiences in all of television and are seeing rapid growth across digital, audio, and more,” Kutler said in a memo obtained by CNN. “In the years ahead, we must continue to show up for our audiences in this critical moment while simultaneously best positioning ourselves for the future.”
The lineup includes removing Jonathan Capehart's show and moving him to co-anchor the morning edition of "The Weekend." MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin will co-host the evening edition of the show, and his show "Ayman" will no longer air Saturdays and Sundays at 7 p.m.
The network also canceled “The Katie Phang Show," and Phang will remain at MSNBC as a legal correspondent, per CNN.
