Golf superstar Tiger Woods on Tuesday underwent surgery in Florida for his ruptured left Achilles tendon, the golfer announced on social media.

Woods said the injury occurred when he was ramping up his own training at home, and he underwent a "minimally invasive" surgery by West Palm Beach doctor Charlton Stucken to fix it.

The doctor said the operation went smoothly, and he expects a full recovery, but Woods will likely miss the first major tournament of the season, the Masters in Augusta, Georgia, April 10-13, which he has won five times, according to ESPN.

"I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support," Woods said on X.

The former champion has not competed in a PGA tour event so far this year. He was expected to compete in the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines outside San Diego last month, but withdrew after his mother's death on Feb. 4.

Woods previously injured his Achilles tendon in 2008, and injured it several times in 2009. It is not clear if he had surgery for those injuries. He was also in a car accident in 2021, which seriously injured his right leg, foot and ankle.
