'NBC Nightly News' Lester Holt steps down from role as anchor
Holt will still be at NBC News and continue his full time position on the show “Dateline."
Top anchor and “NBC Nightly News” managing editor Lester Holt announced Monday he would be stepping down from the role as anchor after a decade.
Holt will still be at NBC News and continue his full time position on the show “Dateline,” NBC said.
“A smile comes to my face when I think that with Nightly News, and Dateline, I have now anchored two of the most successful and iconic television news programs in broadcast history,” Holt wrote in a note to staffers on the show.
“As a 20-year-old radio reporter on the police beat chasing breaking news around San Francisco, I could never have imagined my career path would unfold in the way it has. What an amazing ride," he continued.
Holt joined NBC News in 2000 and has interviewed multiple leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Joe Biden and President Donald Trump.
He is also well-known for field reporting on school shootings, hurricanes and wildfires.
