Trump-backed Salazar runs ad attacking him immigration

Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, R-Fla., is running a campaign ad openly criticizing President Donald Trump on immigration enforcement, despite the president backing her for reelection.

Salazar is the lead proponent of the "Dignidad Act," an amnesty bill that attracted scrutiny from Republicans earlier this year.

"Mr. President, some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far," she says in the ad. "The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today."

Salazar represents the 27th congressional district, which includes parts of Miami. The district is typically Republican-leaning and overwhelmingly Hispanic.

Trump endorsed Salazar for reelection in August of this year.

"María Elvira Salazar has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election!" he said at the time.
