Two former CBS '60 Minutes' stars to teach at Columbia Journalism School in 2026-2027 school year

Former "60 Minutes" correspondents Scott Pelley and Sharyn Alfonsi will move to the classroom in the fall for the 2026-2027 academic school year to teach classes at the Columbia Journalism School, the university confirmed this week.

The pair will serve as Journalists in Residence at the Ivy League institution and will work closely with students, individually and as a group, through lectures and workshops designed to sharpen the students' reporting, investigative and sourcing skills.

“We're both excited and honored to welcome two journalists of this caliber to our Journalist in Residence Program,” Columbia Journalism School Dean Jelani Cobb said in a statement Monday. “Their distinguished track records in investigative reporting highlight the amazing opportunity our students will have to learn from them, and we look forward to having Sharyn and Scott with us this year.”

Pelley was fired in June after he slammed CBS head Bari Weiss in a "60 Minutes" meeting with new executive producer Nick Bilton, claiming she was at the network to "kill" the program, and got into a heated exchange with the producer.

The network opted not to renew Alfonsi's contract in May after she clashed with it over Weiss' decision to pull her segment on Trump administration deportations late last year.

“Joining Columbia University as a Journalist in Residence is an extraordinary privilege, especially at a time when deep, rigorous and fearless reporting has never been more vital,” Alfonsi said. “I’m excited to work with the next generation of journalists who are eager to ask the tough questions that hold power accountable.”
