Top Russian officials to hold talks Tuesday with Trump administration in Saudi Arabia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already said the country would not be a part of these discussions.
Prominent Russian officials will meet with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia this week to discuss ending the Ukraine war and negotiating a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin announced Monday.
The meeting will take place Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, according to The Associated Press.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Putin’s foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov will be meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and national security adviser Mike Waltz.
Peskov said that the discussion will be about restoring the relationship between Russia and the U.S. and "preparing possible talks on the Ukrainian settlement."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already said the country would not be a part of these discussions.
Andriy Yermak, an adviser to Zelensky said that as of now there isn't a plan for advisers from Ukraine and Russia to have a meeting.
The U.S. has been financially supporting Ukraine in the ongoing war since 2022 when Russia first invaded the country.
