President Donald Trump said Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin would accept peacemakers from Europe in Ukraine as part of a possible deal to end the war between the two countries.

Trump mentioned Putin’s concession during a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House.

“Yeah, he will accept it,” Trump answered when a reporter asked him about European peacemakers in Ukraine as part of a deal to end the war, according to The Associated Press. “I have asked him that question. Look, if we do this deal, he’s not looking for World War.”

Members of Trump's administration spoke with Russian officials last week about potential ways to end the war in Ukraine.

Trump and Macron had a meeting prior to the press conference where the Russia-Ukraine war was likely discussed.
