A Russian official negotiating with U.S. counterparts in Saudi Arabia this week to try to bring an end to his country's war with Ukraine said Tuesday talks have been "useful," but didn't give any details.

"We talked about everything," negotiator Grigory Karasin told the Russian state news agency TASS. "It was an intense dialogue. Not easy, but very useful for us and the Americans."

President Donald Trump spoke last week to Russian President Vladimir Putin about the possibility of a narrow ceasefire on energy and infrastructure targets and a possible "maritime" ceasefire in the three-year-long Russia-Ukraine war.

Karasin said that the talks would continue and that "lots of problems were discussed" during the most recent negotiations.

Neither country has yet released an official statement about the talks.
