White House deputy press secretary says Trump is focused on delivering peace amid Russia-Ukraine war
Trump on Thursday called for a 30-day ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war to work toward formal peace negotiations.
White House deputy press secretary Kush Desai on Friday said President Donald Trump is focusing on delivering peace to the world by trying to promote a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
"I think we saw that with the signing of the landmark minerals deal with Ukraine," Desai said on the Just the News, No Noise TV show. "The president is focused on delivering peace for the world."
Trump on Thursday called for a 30-day ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war to work toward formal peace negotiations.
"Talks with Russia/Ukraine continue," Trump wrote on TRUTH Social. "The U.S. calls for, ideally, a 30-day unconditional ceasefire. Hopefully, an acceptable ceasefire will be observed, and both Countries will be held accountable for respecting the sanctity of these direct negotiations."
Desai said while he doesn't have the specifics on the progress of the peace deal with Russia and Ukraine, it is closer than it's been before.
"He wants the bloodshed to end and that's what the war has largely been," he said. "It's been back and forth on these empty fields where people are just getting slaughtered."
