Trump administration will check Fort Knox to ensure the 'gold is there'

There have been conspiracy theories around the gold and whether or not it is at Fort Knox.

President Donald Trump says his administration will audit the gold reserves that are kept at Fort Knox in Kentucky.

“We’re going to go to Fort Knox, the fabled Fort Knox, to make sure the gold is there,” Trump said Wednesday, according to CNBC News.

The talks about the gold at Fort Knox being potentially gone started when Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk started talking about it on X.

"This gold is the property of the American people. I sure hope it’s still there!" he wrote.

There have been conspiracy theories around the gold and whether it is at Fort Knox.

According to the Treasury Department's website, there are 147,341,858.382 troy ounces of gold reserves at Fort Knox. 

“I think if this administration presses for an audit, that’ll be a good thing for everybody,” Alamos Gold CEO John McCluskey told CNBC.
