President Donald Trump on Monday said there would be more deportations of student "terrorist sympathizers" following the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate who helped organize pro-Palestinian protests at the Ivy League college in Manhattan.

Khalil is a green card holder who was arrested Saturday by federal immigration authorities. As of Monday, where he was being held and under what exact charges were unclearAs of now it is not known where he is being held or what charges he faces. He is married to a U.S. citizen.

His lawyer said ICE agents told her during her client's arrest that they were following through with orders from the State Department to revoke Khalil's student visa, according to the NPR outlet.

"Following my previously signed Executive Orders, ICE proudly apprehended and detained Mahmoud Khalil, a Radical Foreign Pro-Hamas Student on the campus of Columbia University," Trump wrote on TRUTH Social. "This is the first arrest of many to come."

Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed the arrest of Khalil.

This arrest comes amid Trump's promise to deport universities on visas who support "terrorism."

Last spring, students and other Palestinian supporters held anti-Israel protests at campuses across the country. Such Demonstrations largely ended as the school year came to a close. However, the reemerged earlier this month at Barnard College, which is affillited and adjacent to Columbia, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

"We know there are more students at Columbia and other Universities across the Country who have engaged in pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic, anti-American activity, and the Trump Administration will not tolerate it," Trump's post continued.

He said many of the people involved in these protests aren't students, but paid agitators.
