150 bipartisan lawmakers join resolution supporting Iranian people's fight for regime change
The resolution supports National Council of Resistance of Iran President-elect Maryam Rajavi's 10-point plan for the future of Iran, which hopes to establish a secular, democratic, and non-nuclear Iranian republic.
A coalition of over 150 bipartisan lawmakers on Wednesday introduced a bill that supports the Iranian people's resistance movement, which is fighting for regime change in the Middle Eastern country.
The resolution supports National Council of Resistance of Iran President-elect Maryam Rajavi's 10-point plan for the future of Iran, which hopes to establish a secular, democratic and non-nuclear Iranian republic. The resolution also slams Iran's oppressive practices and urges global leaders to continue imposing sanctions on the country.

"The developments of the past year have left no doubt that the source of terrorism and warmongering in the Middle East region is the theocratic Islamic Republic of Iran," the resolution reads. "The efforts of Western countries over the past 45 years to change the behavior of this regime have failed, and the ultimate solution to ending the Iranian regime’s threats is the establishment of a secular, democratic, and pluralistic republic by the Iranian people and resistance."
The resolution, which was introduced just before a Congressional hearing entitled "The Future of Iran" with the Congressional Iran Human Rights and Democracy Caucus, is led by Caucus chairman Tom McClintock.
"We can all sense that the tide is turning," McClintock said in his opening statement. "The Iranian regime has become a pariah among the civilized nations of the world, and a supreme source of misery, injustice and oppression to its people. Such a state of things cannot last much longer, and I believe events are coming to a head. It is not inconceivable to me that within the next few years, we will be celebrating the liberation of Iran."
McClintock, a Republican, told Just The News that the Iranian resistance movement's fight in the country should be an "inspiration" to Americans and the world.
"There's an inscription on our Liberty Bell that commands 'proclaim liberty throughout all the land and under all the inhabitants thereof,'" the lawmaker said. "Freedom is what produces the happiness and prosperity of any society, and freedom is long overdue to be restored to the people of Iran, along with all of the prosperity and happiness that it brings."
One of the bill's Democratic signers, California Rep. Zoe Lofgren, said that it was important for Americans to unite behind the resistance movement, but acknowledged that the real fight should be from the Iranian people.
"The change that Iran needs to become a secular, non nuclear democracy is going to have to come from within," she told Just The News. "But it's important that our voices of support be heard outside of Iran, and that's part of why we have this bipartisan group in Congress to have those voices heard, hopefully, to encourage people who've been ... tremendously courageous."
Rajavi told lawmakers in live remarks that the Iranian regime is the weakest that it has been in decades.
"The situation of the Iranian society is explosive. During its 46-year rule, the religious fascism has never been so weak and fragile," she said. "The mullahs are surrounded from all sides: by a society that is filled with anger and rebellion, by Resistance Units, and by selfless and rebellious youth, because of its bankrupt economy and corruption in the government."
Alejo Vidal-Quadras Roca, a former Spanish member of the European Parliament who was a victim of Iranian terrorism, said the resolution was a source of inspiration for Iranian people. He also claimed that the American people have done their part in supporting regime change in Iran by electing President Donald Trump back to office.
"I think the American people have already done their part in the last presidential election," he told Just The News. "According to what I have read in the Presidential Memorandum on national security ... The new administration is ready to to be really tough and determined against this regime. That is good news."
