Bernie Moreno teases introducing bill that would expand Trump Accounts access to people under 40
Moreno, who is not up for reelection this year, said the legislation would make life easier for young adults if they are allowed access to the benefits.
Ohio Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno said Tuesday that he would introduce a bill after the midterms that would expand access to President Donald Trump's "Trump Accounts" to Americans who are under the age of 40.
The Senate is currently in recess while more than 20 senators seek reelection next month. There are 11 senators who have announced they are not seeking reelection, including 10 who are retiring at the end of the term in January.
Moreno, who is not up for reelection this year, said the legislation would make life easier for young adults if they are allowed access to the benefits.
"This is a game-changer and I’ll lead the bill in the Senate to make it happen," Moreno posted on X. "Trump Accounts are already transforming lives for families across America. Raising the age limit will give hardworking Americans powerful new tools to buy homes, wipe out student debt, and invest in their own futures."
The accounts are government-maintained investment accounts that received money from the Treasury and private contributions. Each account is tied to an American child and will be made available to them when they become an adult to help them financially.
More than 70 million children now have an account after the Treasury Department automatically enrolled more than 60 million children in the program, and billionaires like Dell CEO Michael Dell and his wife, Susan Dell have made investments into the program.
Trump told reporters Tuesday that he is considering a similar effort for adults, but has not released any details on the move so far.
