Cruz says Greene becoming 'very liberal' with stances on Israel, government spending
"That is not where the American people are," Sen. Ted Cruz said
Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz said on Wednesday that Republican colleague Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is becoming "very liberal" with her stances on Israel and government spending.
Cruz said on CNBC that people should not “spend much time worrying about what Marjorie is saying,” The Hill news outlet reported.
“What I’ve found is that whenever an elected official decides that they are going to turn on Israel and hate Israel, you will very quickly see every other policy out of their mouth become very, very liberal,” Cruz continued. “And so suddenly Marjorie is for massive government spending and taxes and open borders and amnesty.”
“Okay, fine,” he said. “That is not where the American people are. Where the American people are is real simple. We’re on Day 29 of the stupidest shutdown.”
Ohio GOP Sen. Bernie Moreno earlier pleaded for Greene to stop openly criticizing House Speaker Mike Johnson.
“If this is something she‘s passionate about, put pen to paper, write a bill, present an option,” Moreno told CNN. “Don‘t just criticize what other people are doing.”
On Tuesday, Greene called out Johnson for not offering congressional Republicans any alternative plans to the Affordable Care Act during a conference call. Her comments came as Senate Democrats continue to vote against a House-passed funding bill, continuing the government shutdown because they're pushing for extended ACA tax credits.
“I demanded to know from Speaker Johnson what the Republican plan for healthcare is to build the off-ramp off Obamacare and the ACA tax credits to make health insurance affordable for Americans,” Greene posted on X.
“Johnson said he’s got ideas and pages of policy ideas and committees of jurisdiction are working on it, but he refused to give one policy proposal to our GOP conference on our own conference call. Apparently I have to go into a SCIF to find out the Republican healthcare plan!!!”
In July, she said the humanitarian crisis in Gaza amid Israel's war with Hamas is a “genocide.”
