Fauci's diaries show he relished in fame during COVID and didn't dismiss lab leak theory

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., released parts of the diary of Dr. Anthony Fauci, former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases during President Trump’s first term and chief medical advisor to former President Joe Biden. 

The diaries show that Fauci relished the fame he received for advising on the management of the COVID pandemic, including interactions with celebrities, the Daily Wire reported. 

In the diary, Fauci recalled a conference call on Feb. 1, 2020, in which several high-level scientists debated the possibility that Wuhan lab workers intentionally inserted a protein spike to engineer the COVID virus. The theory disputes the natural origins theory that proposes the virus was transmitted from animals to humans through consumption of an infected animal sold at a wet market. 

“Now we know the market was not the source, it was the amplifier," Fauci wrote, contradicting his later efforts to portray the lab-leak theory as a conspiracy theory, the Daily Caller reported.
