Influential House chairman forcefully endorses Trump's 'big beautiful bill,' presses conservatives
The bill includes key factors of Trump's agenda, such as no taxes on tips, increased border security funding and extending the president's 2017 tax cuts.
House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan, an influential founder of the Freedom Caucus, on Monday strongly embraced President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill" and implored fellow conservatives to get behind a once-in-a-generation conservative makeover of America.
"What I think we really need to be doing as Republicans, is talking about how good this bill is," Jordan said on the Just the News, No Noise TV show. "I mean, there's a reason Democrats hate it. Democrats hate it because it's all about Republican principles.
"We're the party that says cut taxes. We're the party that says secure the border. We're the party that says we should require work for able-bodied adults who are getting taxpayer money. This bill does all three of those," he added.
Jordan made his comments on the eve of an important meeting between Trump and House Republicans on Capitol Hill.
Over the weekend, House Republicans on the Budget Committee voted to advance Trump's “big, beautiful bill” encapsulating his legislative agenda after deficit hawks relented.
The House is expected to vote on the bill later this week.
The bill includes key factors of Trump's agenda, such as no taxes on tips, increased border security funding and extending the president's 2017 tax cuts.
Jordan said while he understands some conservative lawmakers are focused on state and local tax deductions and cutting spending, the bill has a lot of the GOP agenda and needs to be passed.
"This is a great bill because it embraces the principles that we believe in as Americans and as Republicans, and we should go out and talk about those [things] and get this thing passed," Jordan said.
