Key lawmaker says leftist attacks on military seek to undercut immigration enforcement
Rep. Glenn Grothman, R-Wis., helped expose how the Biden administration lost track of tens of thousands of migrant children who came into the country without their parents.
A House lawmaker who helped expose a major Biden-era border scandal says he believes leftist attacks on the military, including a viral video from six Democrat senators, are aimed at undercutting President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement and returning the country to lawless, open borders.
Rep. Glenn Grothman, R-Wis., who used a House subcommittee he chairs to expose how the Biden administration lost track of tens of thousands of migrant children who came into the country without their parents, made the comments earlier this week before an Afghan national let into the country by the prior administration critically wounded two National Guard troops patrolling near the White House. One later died.
“They want to get out in front and make sure we don't enforce their immigration laws. It's that simple,” Grothman said during a wide-ranging interview on the Just the News, No Noise television show on Monday. “We've got a situation [in which] about four times as many people every year are becoming new citizens compared to when you and I were children. I mean, way more people becoming citizens legally.
“But the Democrat Party – and this is a sign they want to destroy America – they want our immigration laws not enforced, and they want to make sure that our National Guard, whatever, does not enforce them."
Grothman issued a fresh statement Wednesday night offering his support to the military troops helping Trump with enforcement after the two Guardsman were wounded in the ambush attack in the nation's capital.
“My prayers are with the National Guard members who were tragically killed in this horrific act of violence, and with their families during this unimaginable time,” he wrote in X. “There is absolutely no place for this in our country. These guardsmen were simply doing their duty: protecting the American people and our nation’s capital. I’m grateful for every individual who serves and stands guard to keep our communities safe.”
Grothman uses his subcommittee to highlight the testimony of whistleblowers and to work with federal watchdogs to fix a scandal that allowed tens of thousands of unaccompanied migrant children to be lost in the system or improperly tracked as required by law because they were let into the country without parents.
He and other GOP lawmakers have recently been investigating how illegal immigration has hijacked apportionment, redirecting federal tax dollars to blue states that have created sanctuaries for illegal aliens. Grothman also warned that Democrats would quickly reopen borders if they win the next two elections.
“The problem goes beyond just these few politicians,” Grothman said, referring to the six Democrat senators whose viral video urged military members to defy “illegal” orders from Trump. “It goes to governors. It goes to mayors, all the people with sanctuary cities, saying, we want to do all we can to encourage illegal immigration in this country. That is what this is about.
“If the Democrats take over again, go back to this idea of 2million or 3 million people a year crossing the border, it's tge end of the United States. But again, look at all the high-profile Democrats, in essence, saying we do not want our immigration laws enforced."
The six who made the video have faced a difficult week since.
Trump accused them of sedition, the FBI is seeking interviews with them as part of a criminal investigation, and War Secretary Pete Hegseth has threatened to recall Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, a former military pilot and astronaut, back to active duty to face court martial.
The group has struggled to describe what they meant by their video, with Sen. Elissa Slotkin, of Michigan, admitting in a televised interview she could not name an illegal order she believed Trump had issued that should be defied.
And on Wednesday, the senators faced fresh ridicule on social media when they tried to express condolences to the wounded National Guardsman and their families.
“F—k you,” conservative legal activist Mike Davis wrote on X in response to Slotkin’s expression of condolences.
Even Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon got into the debate.
“Look in the mirror,“ Dillon wrote on social media when Sen. Kelly tried to express his support for the wounded soldiers.
