Here are the GOP senators who voted with Democrats against permanently ending government shutdowns
Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson introduced the Eliminate Shutdowns Act, which would keep the federal government funded at its existing levels in two-week increments until lawmakers passed all 12 appropriations bills.
More than a dozen Republican senators on Monday night voted with all Senate Democrats to reject invoking cloture on a bill that seeks to permanently end government shutdowns.
Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson introduced the Eliminate Shutdowns Act, which would keep the federal government funded at its existing levels in two-week increments until lawmakers passed all 12 appropriations bills.
The legislation comes as the government hurdles toward a shutdown on Wednesday if no continuing resolution is reached that would keep the government funded at existing levels through Nov. 21.
The vote was 61-37 with two members not voting. Here are the 14 Republicans who voted with the Democrats to block Senator Johnson's bill to permanently end all government shutdowns:
Senate Majority Leader John Thune*
Arkansas Sen. John Boozman
Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy
Maine Sen. Susan Collins
Nebraska Sen. Deb Fischer
Mississippi Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith
Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell
Kansas Sen. Jerry Moran
Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin
Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul
Nebraska Sen. Pete Ricketts
South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds
Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker.
*Thune initially voted in favor of invoking cloture but changed his vote in order to enter a motion to reconsider it in the future.
Thune said the Senate will vote on the House-passed continuing resolution on Tuesday. The Senate voted on the legislation earlier this month, but it failed due to Democratic opposition.
