Here are the lawmakers headed to Rome this weekend for Pope Francis' funeral

A bipartisan group of lawmakers are heading to Rome on Friday for the funeral of the late Pope Francis, which will take place in the early hours of Saturday morning for Americans on the East Coast. 

The pope died from a stroke on Monday, kicking off a nine-day period of mourning, which included his lying in state and will include the funeral. 

President Donald Trump, first lady Melania Trump and former President Joe Biden will attend the Saturday service.

The Senate delegation will be led by Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins, according to Politico, and the House delegation will be led by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise. Both are Catholic. 

“As a lifelong Catholic, I am honored to represent the House in paying our respects and praying for the soul of Pope Francis, as Catholics all around the world grieve, and as Church leaders prepare to elect a new pope in the coming weeks,” Scalise said in a statement.
