House to consider Russia sanctions bill next week that passed Senate with bipartisan support

The House is scheduled to take up legislation next week that would impose sanctions on Russia. 

The measure passed the Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support last month, according to The Hill. 

The House Rules Committee will meet Monday to consider the sanctions bill, which was championed by the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. and supported by President Donald Trump, along with other legislation. 

House Republican leaders want to move the measure through regular order, meaning Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., will need near-unanimous Republican support on a procedural vote if the bill is to move to the House floor. 

If passed and signed by Trump, the bill would impose harsher sanctions on Russia and buyers of Russian oil and gas than those the U.S. previously imposed. The bill would also extend sanctions on Iran, as part of an effort to hit the country's economy.
