House GOP passes 'born alive' abortion bill a day after the Senate blocks similar version

The GOP-led House on Thursday passed a "born alive" abortion bill that would require healthcare providers to give medical care to a child born after a failed abortion.

The bill says that doctors have to give the “same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence” for a baby born alive after a failed abortion, according to The Hill newspaper.

This comes one day after the Senate blocked similar legislation.

GOP lawmakers said that the bill isn't anti-abortion, but anti-infanticide. Democrats have argued that the bill is redundant and could be misused to criminalize doctors.

Democratic Rep. Kelly Morrison (Minn.), described the bill as "cruel" for patients.
