House COVID-19 panel subpoenas former Trump adviser Peter Navarro

Former White House adviser Peter Navarro was subpoenaed Thursday by the House subcommittee investigating the Trump administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to The Hill, House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis Chair Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., accused Navarro of placing a priority on politics when responding to the pandemic.

"Given his central role in the pandemic response, the importance of the Select Subcommittee’s investigation, and his continued refusal to cooperate voluntarily, this subpoena is necessary," Clyburn wrote in a memo.

Clyburn accused Navarro of intentionally giving millions of dollars in pandemic supply contracts to "unprepared or politically connected" companies.

In a statement to the Washington Post, Navarro called the subcommittee's subpoena a "witch-hunt."

"I will be delivering a case of my new book 'In Trump Time' to members of the committee which explains why this is indeed a witch hunt," he said, which the book details his "role in fighting a deadly pandemic from China."

Navarro has until Dec. 8 to comply with the subpoena and turn over the requested documents. He has until Dec. 15 to appear for a formal deposition.
