House passes DHS funding bill, Senate unlikely to approve

The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as the partial shutdown continues.

The 218-206 vote saw four Democrats vote with Republicans to end the more-than-one-month-long shutdown, The Hill reported. It is not expected to clear the Senate, however, where Democrats have sought immigration policy concessions in exchange for funding the department.

Though Republicans have agreed to some concessions, including body cameras for ICE agents, they have refused Democratic demands for judicial warrants for immigration arrests.

The Senate has floated a multitude of partial funding deals, including stand alone bills to fund the TSA or other parts of DHS. Thus far, however, lawmakers have been unable to send a bill to President Donald Trump's desk.
