House Speaker Johnson reaches agreement with Rep. Luna on proxy voting for new parents: Report
Luna has reportedly agreed not to move forward with her discharge petition as a result of the new agreement.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., has come to agreement with Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., regarding proxy voting for new parents, according to a report from The Hill citing sources.
Proxy voting for new parents locked the House floor last week and led to a cancellation of votes until Monday.
The agreement reportedly involves “vote pairing,” which would allow a lawmaker who misses votes due to the birth of a child to coordinate with another lawmaker planning to vote opposite their position. The lawmaker voting opposite of their position would have to be willing to abstain from voting to cancel out the absent lawmakers' vote.
Luna has reportedly agreed not to move forward with her discharge petition as a result of the new agreement.
