Indiana congressman praises Trump as 'strongest diplomat' amid US-EU trade agreement
Congressman Marlin Stutzman said good trade policy will likely happen as a result of this deal.
Congressman Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., praised Trump on Monday regarding the recently announced trade agreement between the U.S. and the European Union.
"I've said it many times that President Trump is the strongest diplomat," Stutzman said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "He's the strongest negotiator our country's had since President Reagan."
Trump announced the trade deal after meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland over the weekend. The agreement means there will only be a 15% tariff on European imports, in exchange for $600 billion of investments in the U.S. and a $750 billion purchase of U.S. energy.
The 15% tariff rate is notably less than the 30% Trump threatened to impose on the EU earlier this month.
Stutzman said good trade policy will likely happen as a result of this deal.
"President Trump knows how to go into these countries and flex the muscle that the American economy has and pull these deals together now," he said. "This is going to give us some great access to the European markets."
