Kamala Harris fundraising off congressional probe into ActBlue
The fundraising email comes as House Republicans probe potential suspicious activity related to the fundraising platform.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris launched a fundraising campaign Wednesday citing Republican “attacks” against the progressive fundraising platform ActBlue, as two House committees probe concerns that foreign monies were routed through its system.
“Over the last few months, Republicans have escalated their attacks on an unlikely target: ActBlue, the platform Kamala Harris and many Democrats use to receive campaign contributions,” the fundraising email reads. “The far-right has threatened bogus investigations into ActBlue and Elon Musk keeps firing off tweets about a massive scandal.”
The fundraiser claims that Republicans are turning to ActBlue to silence Democrats’ small-dollar donors across the country.
“And they know that if they can harm or degrade YOUR ability to make those donations, it becomes easier for billionaires like Elon Musk to buy elections and harder for us to stop Trump's agenda,” it says.
The fundraising email comes on the heels of scrutiny from House Republicans who launched an investigation into the donor platform last year, citing Suspicious Activity Reports generated by the Treasury Department’s anti-money laundering system. Specifically, House Oversight Committee members are concerned that foreign adversaries like China, Iran, Venezuela and Russia may be routing illicit foreign money into Democratic coffers, Just the News reported in October.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil renewed their request to the Treasury Department this month to view the SARs, claiming the Biden administration delayed their access.
“Although the Biden Administration initially stalled the Committees’ requests in its entirety for months, on January 2, 2025, Treasury allowed the Committees to review only limited documents,” they wrote Trump Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant. “We write to request Treasury, in its commitment to transparency and cooperation, provide both Committees with the remaining records relevant to our investigations.”
Harris, a Democrat, has not said whether she will again seek elected office, after losing her bid last year to become president. However, her name has been mentioned as a potential 2026 candidate for California governor or a 2028 presidential candidate.
