A war powers resolution that would have forced an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iran failed in the Senate on Thursday.
The resolution, which was sponsored by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., failed on a 49-50 vote, The Hill reported.
Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Rand Paul of Kentucky joined the Democrats in voting for the measure. Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was the only Democrat to vote against it.
The vote was the 13th time the Senate voted on resolutions related to the president's power to continue the war in Iran. Senate Republicans have blocked 11 of those measures. One measure, which passed the Senate last week, was a nonbinding resolution and did not go to Trump's desk for his signature.
