Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., was found “unconscious” last month after possibly having suffered a heart attack at his home in the nation’s capital. The 84-year-old senator was rushed to a local hospital, according to a District Fire and EMS dispatch call made public Wednesday.

The incident occurred on June 14, and the dispatch call mentioned medical personnel from Advanced Life Support, with an ambulance arriving at his home just before 9 a.m. It was also mentioned that there was “CPR in progress” for a “cardiac arrest,” according to the New York Post.

Punchbowl News was the first to report on the EMS radio traffic.

On that day, a McConnell spokesman shared that the senator “was admitted to the hospital this morning” and was “receiving excellent care.”

McConnell served as both Minority and Majority Leader of the Senate GOP from 2007 until January 2025. In February 2025 he announced that he wouldn’t be seeking re-election to an eighth term in 2026.

Sen. John Thune, R-SD, was elected Senate Majority Leader in November 2024, and began in that position in January 2025. Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) won the Republican primary race this year to replace McConnell in the Senate.
