MTG keeps up pressure on GOP: ‘Done NOTHING to Fix’ Obamacare
The Georgia congresswoman said her family’s health insurance tripled after the Affordable Care Act passed
Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene took her own party to task for failing to fix the problems caused by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare.
“The American people are getting CRUSHED by skyrocketing health insurance costs,” she wrote in a Saturday post on X. “My family’s policy jumped from $800 to over $2,400 a month, more than our mortgage. And it’s about to get even worse in January.”
“Democrats shoved Obamacare down our throats, but Republicans have done NOTHING to fix the disaster it created,” she added. “I’m calling out my own party because this is unacceptable. We need leadership, a real plan that will bring down premiums and put the American people FIRST again.”
Along with the post, Greene shared a clip from her Friday appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher.
“I blame my own party, that’s absolutely wrong,” she told Maher. “And I don’t think it’s an easy thing to fix. However, it’s something that we should have a plan for. And [House Speaker] Mike Johnson — for a month now — cannot give me a single policy idea. And I’m angry about that.”
Greene’s co-panelist, libertarian podcaster Michael C. Moynihan, responded by saying that he did not foresee agreeing with the Georgia congresswoman, but shared her view on this issue.
A report from the Kaiser Family Foundation released on Tuesday claimed health insurers on the ACA Marketplaces are set to raise prices by an average of 26% in 2026.
“In states that run their own Marketplaces, the average benchmark (second-lowest cost) silver premium, on which the tax credit calculation is based, is rising 17% next year,” the health policy organization stated. “In states that use Healthcare.gov, these premiums are rising an average of 30%.”
