Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is expected to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee in early March, an aide for Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, told Politico on Monday.

The hearing is part of the committee's oversight of the Department of Homeland Security but comes amid heightened tension regarding the department's handling of anti-ICE protests in Minnesota this month, where two people were killed by federal officers.

Noem is expected to testify on March 3, according to Bloomberg, where she will appear in front of the committee for a round of questioning from each senator, who will have 10 minutes to interview her.

The questions are expected to include criticism of her comments regarding the death of the second protester, Alex Pretti, who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer over the weekend.

Pretti was reportedly in possession of a firearm during an altercation with law enforcement and video footage showed an officer shoot him during the exchange.

Noem indicated that Pretti was a domestic terrorist and that he was there to "perpetuate violence."

"Violence against a government because of ideological reasons and for reasons to resist and to perpetuate violence," she said in a news conference on the shooting. "That is the definition of domestic terrorism."
