GOP Sen Tillis, who's been a roadblock to Trump agenda, signals OK with Blanche as attorney general

GOP Sen. Thom Tillis, who has frequently split with President Trump on key issues and possible appointments, so far is giving the OK to acting Attorney General Todd Blanche being confirmed by the Senate to official get the post. 

Tillis, who serves on the chamber's Judiciary Committee, said he's "generally satisfied" with Blanche's paperwork and plans to meet with the nominee next week, Bloomberg reported. 

Trump nominated Blanche last week to be the permanent replacement for Attorney General Pam Bondi. Blanche previously served as Bondi's deputy and had been serving in the lead role in an acting capacity ever since Bondi was fired in April. 

Blanche started his Senate confirmation process for attorney general on Monday by meeting Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley.

Grassley spoke favorably about Blanche's career in a statement after the meeting, but noted that he was still waiting for the Justice Department to produce "some documents" he requested. 

Tillis, of North Carolina and who is not seeking reelection, opposed the Justice Department's proposed $1.8 billion fund to compensate people who claim they were wrongfully prosecuted and said Trump's pick to lead the U.S. intelligence community, Bill Pulte, had "no path" through the Senate.
