Rep. Burlison praises House passing first round of DOGE cuts, hopes there will be more to come
Burlison said he didn't think the House cut enough spending and wants more to be done.
Congressman Eric Burlison, R-Mo., on Thursday praised the House for passing the first round of cuts from the Department of Government Efficiency, including funding to the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).
"That was a big win," Burlison said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "Whenever the vote was happening, we were losing the vote, and I think leadership was able to flip a couple of Republicans to vote for it."
The House on Thursday passed a rescission package that included eliminating $9.4 billion in federal funding for foreign aid and public broadcasting.
The package cancels money that was already appropriated by Congress in an effort to cement DOGE's spending cuts.
"I think that we've demonstrated that we can get the rust off the gears here and start to make some cuts now," Burlison said.
Burlison said he didn't think the House cut enough spending and wants more to be done.
"Well, first this needs to pass the Senate, and then it's my hope that the administration sends us some more rescissions to make," he said. "And so, hopefully, this is a start of something beautiful."
