Democratic Rep. David Scott of Georgia died at the age of 80

Scott served in Georgia's 13th district in the House of Representatives since 2003. He was previously a senator for the state's 36th District from 1982 to 2002, Fox News reported.

Rep. David Scott, D-Ga., died at the age of 80.

Scott served in Georgia's 13th district in the House of Representatives since 2003. He was previously a senator for the state's 36th District from 1982 to 2002, Fox News reported.

He previously served in Georgia's House of Representatives for eight years.

Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., formally announced his death in the chamber on Wednesday.
