Rep. Tom Kean, after long absence, returns home to New Jersey

Rep. Thomas Kean, who has been missing from Congress for nearly four months due to an undisclosed illness, is back home in New Jersey. 

A New York Times reporter spotted the congressman at his home in Westfield on Wednesday evening, and said he'd speak to the reporter next week. Kean declined to provide any additional comments. 

The lawmaker has not provided details on the health issue, saying only that it's "personal." House Speaker Mike Johnson said earlier this month that Kean told him what medical condition caused his months-long absence. He said Kean is in "good spirits" and that he will honor Kean's request not to reveal the condition. 

"It’s not a scandalous thing at all," the Louisiana lawmaker said. "People deal with health issues. Maybe that’s a newsflash for you, but even members of Congress get sick as well." 

Harrison Neely, a spokesperson for Kean, said earlier this month that the 57-year-old lawmaker plans to return on June 30, according to Politico.
