Senate confirms group of Trump nominees that includes new FEMA head

The Senate on Friday confirmed a group of President Donald Trump's nominees for positions within the Departments of State, Transportation and Homeland Security, including the new head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The 51-47 vote confirmed 74 nominees, including Cameron Hamilton, who was confirmed as the new FEMA administrator, and Hal Duncan, who was confirmed as the new deputy director of the White House Office of Management and Budget.

Hamilton previously served as FEMA’s acting director at the start of the second Trump administration, but he was removed after he said he believes the agency should not be eliminated. He was later renominated after former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem left her post earlier this year.

The Senate also confirmed David Cummins, a senior vice president ​of Serco, to be the new head of the Transportation Security Administration.

The vote comes as the Senate prepares to leave for its annual August recess later Friday. The lawmakers will return in September.
