Senate confirms Troy Meink as Air Force secretary in bipartisan vote
The Senate voted 74-25 to confirm Meink, with only Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina not voting.
The Senate on Tuesday afternoon confirmed Troy Meink as Air Force secretary in a bipartisan vote, meaning all of President Donald Trump's nominations for military secretaries have now been confirmed.
Meink, who is best known for his role in the space world, will serve as the civilian leader of the Air Force and Space Force. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll and Navy Secretary John Phelan have already been confirmed.
The Senate voted 74-25 to confirm Meink, with only Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina not voting. Among the Democrats who joined the Republicans were Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Jon Ossoff of Georgia, Tim Kaine of Virginia, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin and Ruben Gallego of Arizona.
A total of 21 Democrats voted with Republicans, along with Independent Maine Sen. Angus King.
Meink most recently worked as the principal deputy director for the National Reconnaissance Office, but also served as the deputy undersecretary of the Air Force for Space during the Obama administration. He also served in the Air Force as a KC-135 tanker navigator from 1988-1993, according to Air & Space Forces Magazine.
Meink will now be tasked with overseeing several modernization projects in the Air Force, including the expensive Sentinel program that modernizes the U.S.'s intercontinental ballistic missile system.
