Senate fails to avert government shutdown

The Senate vote comes as time ticks down to the government shutdown, which will take place at midnight Tuesday if Senate leaders cannot come up with a solution. The vote was the second time the Senate tried to pass the resolution.
The continuing resolution failed in a 55-45 split, as it needed 60 votes to pass.
The resolution, which would have kept the government funded through Nov. 21, did see minor support from Democrats, with Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman, Independent Maine Sen. Angus King, and Democratic Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto voting with all Senate Republicans, except for Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who voted against the resolution.
