Speaker Johnson says House will vote again Friday to avoid government shutdown

House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters Friday that members will be voting on legislation this morning to avoid a government shutdown, following a failed attempt Thursday evening.

"We have a plan,” said the Louisiana Republican, according to The Hill newspaper. “We’re expecting votes this morning, so you all stay tuned. We’ve got a plan.”

Johnson did not give any details about the new plan. His initial bill was shot down earlier this week by President-elect Donald Trump. And a Trump-backed bill failed to pass Thursday evening in the House. 

A government shutdown will occur tonight if a continuing resolution isn't passed.
