Texas Republican files articles of impeachment against Judge Boasberg over Arctic Frost

The articles are related to revelations that Boasberg ordered AT&T and Verizon not to notify lawmakers of subpoenas for their phone records in former special counsel Jack Smith's Arctic Frost investigation for at least a year.

Texas GOP Rep. Brandon Gill on Tuesday formally filed articles of impeachment against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who has been at the center of the Trump administration's efforts to invoke the Alien Enemies Act against Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.

Gill first teased the impeachment effort last week after Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz urged the House to impeach the judge. The House impeaches civil officers, the president and the vice president, while the Senate convicts and removes them.

The Texan claimed Boasberg weaponized the judiciary branch against people who criticized the Biden administration, including people who criticized the administration's Arctic Frost probe.

"As part of the Arctic Frost Investigation, Judge Boasberg signed off on frivolous nondisclosure orders to conceal the fact that sitting US Senators were being surveilled," Gill said on X. "Not only was this action egregiously improper; it was a gross violation of the separation of powers. Judge Boasberg is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors, is unfit for office, and should be impeached."

Boasberg had ordered AT&T and Verizon not to notify lawmakers of subpoenas for their phone records as part of former special counsel Jack Smith's Arctic Frost investigation. The nondisclosure orders were in effect for a year.
