Watch Live: House votes on ending longest government shutdown on record
The Senate passed the legislation in a 60-40 vote on Monday, after over a month of trying to pass a shorter resolution.
The House on Wednesday evening advanced a Senate-passed bill toward final passage that would end the longest government shutdown on record, and which would keep the government funded through the end of January.
The Senate passed the legislation in a 60-40 vote on Monday, after over a month of trying to pass a shorter resolution.
The House advanced the continuing resolution in a 213-209 split that set it up for a final vote, which will take place later Wednesday.
The bill, negotiated by moderate Senate Democrats, would fund military construction, Veterans’ Affairs, the Department of Agriculture, and Congress through Sept. 30, and the rest of the government through Jan. 30.
Although it is expected to be opposed by House Democrats, the bill is expected to pass the House because of its Republican majority.
