Congressman Glenn Grothman, R-Wis., said Tuesday that the consensus among the House GOP is that the Senate made the "big beautiful bill" worse.

"When it first came out of the House, it only passed by one vote," Grothman said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "I think the consensus of conservatives in the House is that the Senate made it worse, and our expectation was the Senate would make it better."

The Senate on Tuesday morning passed Trump's "big beautiful bill" in a 50-50 vote, with Vice President J.D. Vance casting the deciding tie-break vote.

The bill now returns to the GOP House for consideration. They could pass it as is and it would head to President Trump's desk for signing. Or, if they make changes before passing it, it would have to go back to the Senate, at least one more time.

Grothman said that while President Donald Trump wants the bill signed by July 4, the deadline may be extended.

"I think Donald Trump would agree we'd rather have a good package on July 21 than a bad package on July 4," he said.

He later said that Republicans have to remember that their goal is to cut the role of government in American life.
