America First Legal (AFL) on Wednesday filed race-based civil rights complaints against three Virginia jurisdictions, one day after the state swung further to the left.

The complaints were made to the Justice Department's Civil Rights division and were filed against Arlington County and the cities of Alexandria and Richmond

The complaints accuse the local governments of having unlawful racial quotas and embedding “equity mandates," that potentially violate Title VI and Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

“This is what happens when leftwing ideology replaces equality under the law,” Emily Percival, Senior Counsel at AFL, said in a statement. “Equity mandates have turned local governments into laboratories for racial engineering. AFL is proud to lead the charge to expose it, document it, and, finally, put a stop to it.”

The complaint against Richmond highlights the city's resolution that supports "equity and justice in access to resources and opportunities.”

The complaint against Arlington County emphasizes the district's “Affirmative Action Program for Women and Minorities,” which supposedly promotes race-based hiring goals for specific job groups.

The Alexandria complaint stresses the city's resolution that commits to "embedding racial and social equity into all city policies, programs, decisions, and environments.”
