Chicago, Illinois sue to stop Trump deployment of National Guard
The suit comes as Trump's deployment of the National Guard to Oregon has faced a judicial stay on 10th Amendment grounds.
The city of Chicago and state of Illinois on Monday sued the Trump administration in a bid to stop the deployment of the National Guard to the Windy City, the Associated Press reported.
President Donald Trump has sought to send troops to Chicago to crack down on crime and illegal immigration in a manner similar to his Washington, D.C., crackdown. Both Gov. JB Pritzker, D-Ill., and Mayor Brandon Johnson have strongly opposed such a move.
The suit comes as Trump's deployment of the National Guard to Oregon has faced a judicial stay on 10th Amendment grounds. The White House has furiously condemned the ruling, which deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller calling it an "egregious" decision.
"A district court judge has no conceivable authority, whatsoever, to restrict the President and Commander-in-Chief from dispatching members of the US military to defend federal lives and property," he posted on X. "
