Detransitioner’s malpractice lawsuit heading to North Carolina appeals court

Prisha Mosley, a North Carolina detransitioner, is appealing the dismissal of a medical malpractice lawsuit against health care providers who treated her during a gender transition that she began as a teenager.

Mosley, now 28, said she was prescribed hormones at 17 and underwent a double mastectomy at 18. 

She later sued several medical providers, alleging fraud and medical malpractice and arguing that she was misled about the effects and consequences of the treatment. The defendants have disputed her claims.

A key issue in the case is North Carolina's statute of limitations for medical malpractice claims. 

Mosley's malpractice claims were initially dismissed as untimely, according to reports.

In 2025, however, the state legislature enacted legislation that extended the limitations period for certain claims arising from gender-transition-related medical treatment. The changes are reportedly applicable to previously filed or pending cases.
