MAGA donor at center of Guilfoyle's downfall files defamation suit against ousted Greece ambassador
Donor Eric Deters says Guilfoyle asked him to send her $1K to pay a credit card bill in exchange for access to the Trump White House. His lawyers say ouster Greece diplomat's legal team told media money was owed to client for expenses.
Eric Deters filed a defamation lawsuit in Kentucky state court on Thursday, against former Greece ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle.
Deters had alleged that Guilfoyle asked him to send her $100,000 to pay a credit card bill in exchange for help with the Trump administration prior to her Senate confirmation hearing, CBS News reported.
Guilfoyle resigned her ambassadorship on Tuesday following pressure from the White House to do so. She disputed the authenticity of the text messages Deters shared with news outlets.
Deters said that Guilfoyle's legal team gave a statement to the Wall Street Journal claiming that Deters owed Guilfoyle money for traveling to and supporting "patriotic events."
"Kim Guilfoyle and her lawyers claimed my allegations were false, and they would defend the allegations vigorously. Now they can in Kentucky," Deters said in a statement concerning the lawsuit.
