Two federal judges on Tuesday asked the Justice Department (DOJ) to provide more information on the grand jury testimonies it is seeking to unseal, related to the late, disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, before they officially rule on the requests.

The Justice Department filed the requests last week, claiming that more information in the Epstein case was "a matter of public interest," after the Trump administration faced backlash over its handling of the Epstein files. The filing asked for the testimony to be unsealed with redactions of “victim-related and other personal identifying information.”

The two judges, in separate but similar court orders, asked the Justice Department to provide a more thorough case for the unsealing by July 29. Grand jury testimony is usually secret, but judges can order its release in special circumstances.

“The court intends to resolve this motion expeditiously. However, the Court cannot rule on the motion without additional submissions from the government,” the two court orders read.

The judges also instructed Maxwell and others who could object to the release to file their opposition by August 5, per The Hill.
