President Donald Trump's former attorney, Kenneth Chesebro, was disbarred in New York on Thursday by an appeals court, ruling that his guilty plea in Georgia's alternative elector case constituted a "serious crime."

A New York appeals court suspended the lawyer's law license last year after he reached a plea deal with prosecutors in Georgia's wide-reaching racketeering case.

Chesebro was indicted alongside Trump and 17 others in Fulton County last year in relation to the alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in the Peach state. He was indicted on seven charges, but pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit filing false documents. He has since tried to get the plea dismissed.

The appellate panel ruled that his plea to a felony charge related to the election was "unquestionably serious," and deserved disciplinary action, per The Hill

“On that basis alone, respondent’s conduct brings into question his integrity and fitness to continue engaging in the practice of law in New York,” the decision reads. “Given the testimony and evidence produced at the hearing, we conclude that respondent should be disbarred based on his conviction of a serious crime."

Chesebro is now the latest of Trump's team from 2020 to be disbarred over their involvement in the alleged scheme. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has also been disbarred, and former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis agreed last year to have her law license in Colorado suspended for three years for her role.
