The Justice Department on Thursday announced that a former Voice of America (VOA) employee has been indicted and charged with allegedly threatening to kill Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

The department accuses Maryland resident Seth Jason, who was a longtime employee at VOA, of making eight threatening calls to Greene and her team over a 15-month span from Oct. 11, 2023, through Jan. 21, 2025.

Jason allegedly used various VOA phone lines connected to studios and control rooms at its headquarters to make the calls, where he allegedly threatened to use firearms to kill Greene, her staff and their family members.

He has been charged with influencing a federal official by threatening a family member, influencing a federal official by threat, interstate communications with a threat to kidnap or injure, and anonymous telecommunications harassment.

"As the Trump Adminstration official overseeing VOA, I thank [US Attorney Jeanine Pirro] for taking these threats seriously. I am sickened by what Congresswoman [Marjorie Taylor Greene], her staff and their families had to go through as the threats persisted for 15 months!" Senior Advisor for the U.S. Agency for Global Media Kari Lake posted to X.

"It angers me that a taxpayer-funded VOA employee would use taxpayer-funded equipment in a depraved way to threaten the lives of people, including an elected official," she continued. "If he is found guilty, I hope he is sentenced to the maximum amount of time behind bars."

Lake added that the indictment is the latest sign of the "rot" inside the VOA "and the US Agency for Global Media. President Trump wants the agency eliminated--I agree with him--it's time to shut it down."

If convicted on all charges, Jason faces up to nearly 20 years in prison, Lake said.
