An American postal worker in Kansas was indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday for allegedly stealing thousands of pieces of mail, including hundreds of political flyers related to Republican candidates.

According to court documents, 59-year-old Kelly Cram of Baxter Springs, was indicted on one count of unlawful secretion, destruction and delay of mail, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Kansas said in a news release.

Cram is accused of stealing a total of 4,404 pieces of mail that were intended to be delivered to customers in and around Pittsburg, Kansas, including nearly 400 political mailers solely related to Republican candidates or Republican Party-affiliated political action committees.

The postal worker allegedly hid the items in her garage and no mail related to candidates of any other political party were found at her residence.

The indictment comes on Election Day, where Kansas voters are expected to determine whether Kansas GOP Sen. Roger Marshall will stay in office for another six years, and who will be the state's next governor.

Kansas gubernatorial candidates are Republican Ty Masterson and Democrat Cindy Holscher. Kansas is generally a conservative state, but recent polls have shown a very tight race, with both candidates within the polls' margin of error.
